General 6061 characteristics and uses: Excellent joining characteristics, good acceptance of applied coatings. Combines relatively high strength, good workability, and high resistance to corrosion; widely available.

Use Aircraft fittings, camera lens mounts, couplings, marines fittings and hardware, electrical fittings and connectors, decorative or misc. hardware, hinge pins, magneto parts, brake pistons, hydraulic pistons, appliance fittings, valves and valve parts.

Aluminium Alloy Rods 2014 : Good machinability, especially free-cutting qualities, good mechanical properties. Excellent surface finish capability.

Uses: Adapters, carburetor parts, clock parts and gears, knobs, camera parts, meter shafts and gears, nozzles, pencil and pen parts, oil line filters, pipe stems and filters, radio parts, screwdriver caps, spindles, telephone parts, TV fittings, tripod fittings, machine parts, hose parts, pipe stems.

Aluminum Alloy Rods 5086 has very good corrosion resistance (susceptible to deterioration after prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures) and moderate strength. Its weldability is a plus. It is used similarly to aluminum 5083 (although 5086 has better stress corrosion cracking resistance) - in transportation, pressure vessels, cryogenics, towers and drilling rigs, gas/oil piping, ordnance, and armor plate.

Aluminium Alloy Rods 7075 T6: Very high strength material used for highly stressed structural parts.

Applications: Aircraft fittings, gears and shafts, fuse parts, meter shafts and gears, missile parts, regulating valve parts, worm gears, keys, aircraft, aerospace and defense applications; bike frames, all terrain vehicle (ATV) sprockets.

Aluminium alloy 5251 contains nominally 2.0% magnesium & 0.30% manganese. It has good workability, medium static strength, high fatigue strength, good weldability, and very good corrosion resistance, especially in marine atmospheres. It also has the low density and excellent thermal conductivity common to all aluminium alloys. It is commonly used in sheet, plate and tube form.

Machinability5251 is readily machinable by conventional methods. It should be machined at high speed with copious lubrication to avoid thermal distortion of the workpiece. Sharp tools are essential. High speed steel or tungsten carbide may be used. Cuts should be deep and continuous, with high cutting speeds. Woodworking machinery may be suitable for short runs.
Welding5251 is readily weldable by standard techniques. It is frequently welded with GTAW (TIG) or GMAW (MIG). Aluminium must be very dry & clean to avoid contamination & porosity of the weld. Filler metals 1100, 4043 or 4047 are used. 4043 is the most crack tolerant. Shielding gas must be dry & free of hydrogen.

Heat TreatmentAluminium 5251 is annealed at 345°C, time at temperature and cooling rate are unimportant. Stress relief is rarely required, but can be carried out at about 220°C. If loss of strength is of concern, stress relief tests should be conducted.

Aluminum Alloy Rods 2024 T3 One of the most widely used aluminum alloys, it finds applications in a variety of structural areas such as aircraft structures, fasteners, hardware, wheels, screw machine products. 2024 exhibits poor corrosion resistance for an aluminum alloy.
