Principal Design Features:

• This is a non-heat treatable alloy for strengthening. It has very good corrosion resistance, is easily welded and does have good strength.

Applications:

• Commonly used in the manufacture of unfired, welded pressure vessels, marine, auto aircraft cryogenics, drilling rigs, TV towers, transportation equipment, and in missile components.

3003-H14 is most widely used of aluminum alloys, pure aluminum with manganese added for strength, approx 20% stronger than the 1000 series alloys. 3003-H14 aluminum sheet has great workability and may be deep drawn, spun, welded or brazed. 3003 aluminum sheet is NON-heat treatable. This aluminum sheet is widely used for general purposes.

Aluminium Sheet comes in many different alloys and thicknesses for different types of applications. Any aluminium under 3/16" thickness is generally referred to as "Sheet". Aluminium Plate is produced in thicknesses from 3/16" and up and in several different alloys, each with their specific qualities. Choose a thickness to view what alloys we have in stock for that size plate. We stock 3003H14 but we will special order any alloy and any thickness up to 6" thick. 2024-T3 This is the most common of the high-strength alloys. Aircraft quality, 2024 T3 aluminum sheet is thought of as the aircraft alloy because of its strength. It has excellent fatigue resistance. Welding is generally not recommended. Typical uses for 2024-T3 alclad aluminum sheet are aircraft skins, cowls, aircraft structures, and also for RV repair and restoration like Airstreams because of it's shiny finish (2024T3 alclad)

Aluminium 5083 is known for exceptional performance in extreme environments. 5083 is highly resistant to attack by both seawater and industrial chemical environments.
Alloy 5083 also retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C.

Weldability When welding 1050 to itself or an alloy from the same subgroup the recommended filler wire is 1100. For welding to alloys 5083 and 5086 or alloys from the 7XXX series, the recommend wire is 5356. For other alloys use 4043 filler wire.

A high strength 4 to 5% Copper alloy produced in extruded bar and profile form, in the fully heat-treated condition (solution heat-treated & artificially aged)normally stocked in the T6511 condition (stress relieved by controlled stretching) Except for sizes under 10mm diameter and over 203.2mm diameter. (T6 only). Over 203.mm diameter is manufactured to chemical composition Only.
Machinability of aluminium alloy 2014A is very good.
Typical applications of aluminum alloy 2014A are high strength components especially for use in the aerospace and defence industries.

Temper Types This datasheet relates to temper T6511. The most common temper for aluminium alloy 2014A are:

• T6 - Solution heat treated and artificially aged
• T3 - Solution heat treated, cold worked and naturally aged
• T6511 - Solution heat treated and stress-relieved by stretching then artificially aged with minor straightening after aging - Equivalent to T4 condition

Alloy 2024 was introduced by Welcome overseas in 1985 as an alclad sheet in the T3 temper. It was the first Al-Cu-Mg alloy to have a yield strength approaching 50,000-psi and generally replaced 2017-T4 (Duralumin) as the predominant 2XXX series aircraft alloy. With its relatively good fatigue resistance, especially in thick plate forms, aluminum alloy 2024 continues to be specified for many aerospace structural applications. 2024 varient alloys, such as higher purity 2124 and 2324, with improvements in strength and other specific characteristics, have also found application in critical aircraft structures. An improved sheet alloy for fuselage applications was introduced in 1991. Alclad C188 offers improved fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth while maintaining the strength characteristics of 2024.

Applications:

Aluminum Alloy 5083 contains 5.2% magnesium, 0.1% manganese and 0.1% chromium. In the tempered condition, it is strong, and retains good formability due to excellent ductility. 5083 has high resistance to corrosion, and is used in marine applications. It has the low density and excellent thermal conductivity common to all Aluminum alloys.

Description:

• Aluminum 5083 is a strong magnesium-manganese-chromium-Aluminum alloy. It can be hardened by cold work, but is not heat treatable to higher strength. It has good ductility for the strength level, better than most other 5000 series alloys (see figure).

Corrosion Resistance:

• Alloy 5083 has excellent resistance to general corrosion, and is used in marine applications. Resistance is excellent in aqueous solutions in the pH range 4 – 9. The corrosion resistance of Aluminum alloys relies on a protective surface oxide film, which when damaged is readily repaired by the rapid reaction between Aluminum and oxygen. However, the high reactivity of the base metal can give rapid corrosion if the film cannot be repaired, so Aluminum alloys are not suitable for use with reducing media. Alloy 5083 can be anodised to improve the corrosion resistance by thickening the protective surface film. Alloy 5083 can be susceptible to exfoliation corrosion in severe applications. Material in the H116 temper is least susceptible, and passes the ASTM G66 Exfoliation Susceptibility Test (ASSET Test). AS 1734 suggests alloy 5083 should not be used above 65°C.
